| | While his ratings may be going down, George Bush's hypocrisy just keeps moving along. Sure, he'll talk about how the Lord helped him overcome drinking, but don't you dare bring up his cocaine addiction. While he's president of the United States there are thousands of people who are rotting away in jail for doing the same things he's done.
One of the things I'm hoping to touch on with Project Menagerie is the problems that we as a nation (that is, the United States, for all you Godless liberals out there) have with combating our drug addiction. Our last attempt at prohibition ended with the liquor ban being repealed because outlawing it resulted in violence in the streets. We've managed to avoid this with the War on Drugs because we've exported our violence to our neighbors to the south in Mexico and South America. They're the ones that have to live with the violence that America's addiction causes. Whether it's masked as gangsters or revolutionaries we know where their money is coming from.
On a completely different note, below is the colored version of the first page of Underside. That means the first five pages are completed. That's five pages that you can line up in sequential order. Hard to believe, isn't it?
| Well, a couple of people have felt chatty lately and fortunately they've spoken to me. Mike Carey was kind enough to sit down and discuss his work on the upcoming X-Men: Legacy title. John Jackson Miller and I discussed his upcoming work on the "Vector" storyline for Knights of the Old Republic
In the mean time, while professionals such as those two gents continue to create masterful works, you're stuck with the ink for page one of Underside. As the pages for this project have gone up in a rather erratic order, I'll be posting the first five over on its main page. Soon we'll have words!
| Holy cow! Actual new writing on the site! Allow me to point you to the second issue of Project Menagerie. It's exciting! It's fantastic! It's got death and complicated moral situations that'll make you tingle!
Actually, it could be shit. Do me a favor and read it. Let me know what you think. |

| Another day of coloring magic. If you scroll down a bit you'll see the inks for the fourth page of Underside. When Philipp sent me the page, I was impressed, but concerned that the Boabhan Sith wasn't clear or distinct enough. So he tried out two coloring styles to bring her out more. The first is very bright indeed. | | The second is more reserved and I think retains the murky concept that Philipp was going for without losing the creature in the rain. So to speak. | |
| For a quick change, below are the inks of page four from Underside. Philipp has taken a different view of the angles on it and I think it's an improvement. | |
| Another case of life imitating art. It's sad, really. If the young man from Boulder had actually seen WarGames he would have realized that David Lightman's undoing was changing other people's grades as well as his own. At least Lightman had the good sense to only try for one other person rather than 48. However, given the previous post about gun running it seems a bit ridiculous to me that the young man from Boulder is facing felony charges.
The posts for Project Menagerie have been sporadic of late, so I'm putting all the pages up on their own where you can read all of them at once, if you care. For those of you crazy enough to actually be keeping up on this front page, I present page five.
| You may have noted that recently I sung the praises of a new Image title called The Overman. Well, Scott Reed, the author of the title, was kind enough to sit down and share some his thoughts on the book, which he's been developing for a long, long time. You can check out our conversation over at Comics Bulletin. |
| You might know that I write and edit for a site named Silver Bullet Comics Books. Well, Silver Bullet has re-vamped itself with a new look and a whole mess of new material. It's damn pretty if I do say so myself and you should check it out. You can do so by heading over to Comics Bulletin. Go there. Go now. Let its beauty wash over you and restore your soul after wallowing in the adolescent filth of other sites. |
| So I wake up this morning and I read this article about two ex-Blackwater employees who were arrested and convicted of interstate gun running. Both were were sentenced to three years probation and a $1,000 fine. Now, I don't know the particulars of the case, but doesn't that seem like a light sentence for possession of stolen firearms with intent to sell?
Speaking of weapons dealing, the plot thickens in Project Menagerie.
| Cristian Valdes will be taking off some well deserved time here, so Project Menagerie will be off for a while. However, Ricardo Torres will begin work again on GC-7 so we'll start to see some new material for that soon. In the mean time, here's Page 3. | |
| Many folks paying attention have noticed the conspicuous absence of the first page of Project Menagerie. The simple reason for this, as a quick glance below will show, is that it's pretty much worthless without the lettering. However, we're beginning work on lettering the first five pages, so hopefully the story will begin to move from the "pretty picture" phase to the "oh, so that's what's going on" phase. | |

| Today is my wife's birthday. Love her. Love her as the invading felines of the Lactose Nebula love her. | |
